Personal Growth Word of God reading plan

The Word of God – Day 5

Join us this January as we read the Bible together as a community! Enjoy reading the brief devotional, reflect on each passage of Scripture, spend a few moments in prayer/journaling, and interact with us through the comments. We pray that this is a meaningful time of spiritual growth and community building for our Breathe sisters!

Day 5:

Qualities of God’s Word

The Bible has many different qualities. For the next three days we will look at a few of them. Today we see that Jesus is the living Word of God, that the Word gives joy and light, that the Word is eternal, precious and sweet. Which of these “qualities” of God’s Word makes the most impression on you? Why do you think that quality is so important to you?
“The more you read the Bible, and the more you meditate on it, the more you will be astonished with it.”
–Charles Spurgeon

John 1:1-5

1 In the beginning the Word already existed.
The Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
2 He existed in the beginning with God.
3 God created everything through him,
and nothing was created except through him.
4 The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and his life brought light to everyone.
5 The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.

Psalms 19:8

8 The commandments of the Lord are right,
bringing joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are clear,
giving insight for living.

Psalm 119:89

89 Your eternal word, O Lord,
stands firm in heaven.

Psalm 119:152

152 I have known from my earliest days
that your laws will last forever.

Psalm 119:160

160 The very essence of your words is truth;
all your just regulations will stand forever.

Psalm 19:10

10 They are more desirable than gold,
even the finest gold.
They are sweeter than honey,
even honey dripping from the comb.

These Scriptures tell us:

  • Jesus is the living Word of God.
  • The Word gives joy and light.
  • The Word is eternal, precious and sweet.

During your current season of life, tell which one of those descriptions is most dear to you. Explain why.
