If you are anything like me, getting ready in the morning is a chore. Okay, to be totally honest, I am the SLOWEST person in the world when it comes to getting ready. I swear I am moving fast, but, an hour later I am finally getting out the door.
Sometimes, I trick myself by setting my alarm early so I can be ready early and I am still late! My husband is always telling me to move faster, and I say, “Look at me, look how fast I am moving,” but he laughs because nothing I can do makes me move quicker.
Add two kids to this mix and I don’t have an hour to get ready. In fact, I have to get up by 5:45am if I want to fit in a workout, make lunches, barely shower, get the kids going and out the door by 7:55am to make it to school on time. But, I still want to feel good and attempt to look presentable for my husband. Seeing that I have a “slow moving” problem, I needed to devise some tips for myself to get ready quick, but appear I spent time.
Well, I started by not washing my hair every day. I mean, unless I hit up a spin class that day (which to you, the girl in class who shouts WOOT every 2 minutes, why? But, I digress). I still shower daily, I just throw my hair in a bun and try not to get it wet. Saves water too, right? Dry shampoo is my new best friend. There are SO many kinds out there, so order a few different brands on Amazon (because girl, ain’t nobody got time to go to the store), and then send back the ones that you don’t like.
If I plan to wash my hair the next day, I spritz in some Not Your Mothers Beach Babe Sea Salt Texturizing Spray into my dry hair, take a diffusor and on the low setting, spend 1 minute drying from the ends of my hair, pushing up to my scalp (if I have time, otherwise I just use my hands and scrunch it up). It leaves you with some beachy waves and smells amazing. Another perk, its only $4.79 at Target!
My last tip is having great products and using them to their full potential. If you dry your hair, be sure to put in some product to protect your hair from being damaged. Most products also help with flyaways, too. I have longer hair and like to have it curled. I have tried so many curling irons, and finally invested in a Hot Tools Tapered Ceramic Curling Wand (currently $44 on Amazon). You basically wrap your hair around the iron, hold for a second, and instant curls appear. I keep the heat setting low because I have fine hair and don’t want to burn it off. The real trick with longer hair is to grab ALL your hair, throw it as high up on top of your head in a pony (like 80’s style high). Curl those ends, takes around 5 minutes, girls, pull out the pony, and viola. Instant curls. Then just fix up any pieces if needed and finger comb it, as you run out the door.
When all else fails, find YouTube hair tutorial videos of girls with your similar hair to get ideas. In the end, what matters is that you feel good about how you look, have confidence and know God loves us no matter what we look like. I mean, He did design us perfectly, remember?
For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:13-14
